Private Equity, or PE for short, refers to private investment funds, usually pooled from a number of institional funds and/or high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), that are deployed in limited partnership for one or more major investments.

By pooling equity with other investors, smaller institutions and high-net-worth individuals can access investment opportunities that are typically pursued by larger institutions like banks and superannuation funds.

Examples of PE firms in Australia are Quandrant Private Equity, CVC and Archer Capital.
